Max Talisman

Actor, writer, director, and creative force, Max Talisman is rapidly emerging as a leading voice in Hollywood, known for his work with a unique commitment to reshaping LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream media. In his highly anticipated directorial debut, “Things Like This,” Max challenges conventional narratives with a fresh approach to queer romance. The film centers on two men with the same name as they navigate love and self-discovery in New York City, starring Joey Pollari (“Love, Simon”), Jackie Cruz (“Orange is the New Black”), and Cara Buono (“Stranger Things”). Steering away from traditional coming-out stories or trauma-driven themes, “Things Like This” leans into the humor, complexity, and universal joy of connection, positioning itself as one of 2025’s most anticipated indie films.

Growing up in Washington, D.C., Max was introduced to the arts early on, encouraged by his mother, who held a background in theater and early childhood development and by his father. His passion for performance began with a life-changing experience watching Cats at the National Theatre, which ignited his path to the stage. By age twelve, he was already performing in acclaimed regional productions including “Caroline or Change,” “Lost in Yonkers,” “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Ragtime,” and by age fifteen, he was auditioning in New York City and his love for performance and storytelling quickly extended to film and television, leading to roles in the indie thriller “Super Dark Times” and the Jennifer Lopez feature “Marry Me,” as well as appearances in hit series like Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black,” NBC’s “The Blacklist,” and MAX’s dark comedy “Search Party.” Yet, as a plus-sized, queer actor, Max faced Hollywood’s narrow casting limitations, which often pigeonholed him into “funny sidekick” roles that didn’t reflect his talent or vision.

Determined to create opportunities not only for himself but for a wider, more inclusive audience, Max founded Malibu, Bro Productions, a platform dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and bringing authentic characters to the screen. Things Like This was born from this mission, inspired by his own experiences as a plus-sized queer man navigating the dating scene in New York. Influenced by classic romantic comedies like “You’ve Got Mail” and "Sleepless in Seattle,” Max reimagines the genre through an inclusive lens, crafting a story that resonates with both queer and straight audiences. For Max, creating this film was an act of self-advocacy and a step toward breaking free from typecasting, allowing him to take charge of his narrative and tell stories that go beyond stereotypes.

Max’s journey to bring “Things Like This” to life was marked by perseverance and dedication. The screenplay was initially written in 2017 and went through years of development, script readings, and revisions with producing partner Buzz Koenig. Filmed in just 18 days, the production required close collaboration from cast and crew, with Max guiding each scene to align with his vision. The experience was both intense and fulfilling, reinforcing Max’s purpose in filmmaking as he developed a story that explores connection and belonging.

Beyond “Things Like This”, Max has ambitious plans to further his impact in film and television, with a growing slate of projects under Malibu, Bro Productions. Each project celebrates the richness of human relationships, pushing beyond Hollywood’s typical boundaries to offer audiences characters and stories that feel authentic and true. As Max continues to expand his work as a writer, director, and actor, he champions the inclusion of unique perspectives, ultimately creating a space for diverse audiences to see themselves represented in stories that resonate universally.

With “Things Like This” set to debut in 2025, Max Talisman is poised to make a lasting mark on Hollywood. His work invites a new generation of filmmakers to explore bold, inclusive narratives, making way for a more honest and dynamic entertainment industry. Through Malibu, Bro, and with each project, Max is shaping a legacy rooted in the power of storytelling to bridge worlds, highlighting the universal themes of love, identity, and self-discovery that resonate with all audiences. As he looks to the future, Max Talisman continues to lead the way for creators dedicated to bringing diverse, engaging stories to the forefront of film and television.
